creating a visual story

project brief

The aim of this assessment was to create a non-profit online storytelling campaign based on the social issue of animal testing.

The key message for this campaign is for readers to choose cruelty free products. The tone of the visuals are serious and yet hopeful.

Crafting the Story

The story revolves around the main character, Rabbit93, and the scientist that conducts tests on her. The hero of this story is the reader as they have the power to end animal testing on rabbits like Rabbit 93 by choosing cruelty-free products. The obstacle facing readers at the moment is that they do not know the harm that product testing of
products such as deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, and makeup have on animals.

The act of the reader in overcoming the obstacles is simple: choose cruelty-free products and by extension choose the brands and companies that are doing the right thing. The outcome of this story
is for readers to look for a cruelty-free symbol and choose that product instead of an animal tested product.

The lessons to be learned from the story include:
- that many animals are tested on not just rabbits;
- many animals die because of the poisonous chemicals and tests that are done on them; and
- there are other forms of testing that do not harm animals so there is no real need to test on
animals.

The style of this concept is illustration-focused, featuring simple and textured line illustrations, a limited colour palette and handwritten typography.
